We got back in touch with 2021’s Paddy Gerrard Memorial Scholarship Scheme winners to see how they’re getting on since winning.
Katie Hanratty started her first year studying Biological Science as part of a four year honours degree in September of this year. She was absolutely delighted when she found out that she was chosen by MFCU as one of our 2021 Scholarship Scheme winners. We asked her a few questions to see how she has been getting on and here’s what she said:
What has been your favourite part of the course so far?
Definitely the practical work we do in the labs. From identifying uniform motion in physics labs to investigating buffers in biochemistry, it’s always more interesting to actively do the work then learn about it.
What are you looking forward to most about the year ahead in college?
For next semester, I look forward to furthering my learning to another step as I take on semester two modules and pick up some new and interesting modules that I have seen on my timetable recently! I’m also looking forward to seeing my new college friends again, of course.
How has the MFCU Scholarship Scheme helped you with your studies this year?
MFCU Scholarship Scheme helped me immensely in my studies this year. I was able to have a good start to my new savings for college next year, which meant I had more time to focus on study than earning that bit more for next year. It also meant a-lot to see that the team in MFCU were so kind, helpful, and encouraging in promoting & offering pathways to education to young people like me.
What would you say to other students that are considering applying for next year’s MFCU Scholarship Scheme?
I would say you’d be crazy not to!
Applying to this scheme was one of the best decisions I’ve made in terms of my advancement into further education and starting off on the right foot with this support scheme.
As part of our Scholarship Scheme, applicants must be registered MFCU members for at least three months. Therefore we recommend that students join us at the beginning of the year. You can join us completely online through the link below:
We’re delighted to announce the return of the MFCU School Quiz this year after 3 years of Covid cancellations! The Quiz is for 5th & 6th class students, and the winners will represent MFCU at the national finals! Apply today by contacting your School Liaison Officer.
